Two Tricks To Help You Be Consistent

The New Buzz Word is Consistency!

Yep, all the motivational speakers now days are really preaching consistency and why? Well because Consistency is key to any goal!
No matter what your goal is, if it’s to lose weight, get stronger, or maybe get out of debt, you cannot accomplish any of these things by being inconsistent! Think about it… are you going to lose weight by eating one salad a week?  Or get stronger by doing one workout every other week? And quite frankly you are are “never” going to get out of debt if you only pay $10 over the minimum credit card payment a few times a year?
So you see, consistency really does matters.

Here’s Two Tips for Consistency!

1. Figure Out What Motivates You

and focus on it! Are you motivated by feeling more energized or being able to fit in your clothes?  Or maybe you are just simply motivated by wanting to be able to stay in the upright position and get up off the floor by yourself! And when your consistency starts lacking, think about what motivates you. This puts purpose and meaning behind what you are trying to be consistent about!

2. When You Don’t Want To, Is When You Need To The Most

You need to realize that the days when you really don’t feel like doing the work to get towards your goal (like going to the gym) is when you really need to do it! And these are the days that you will feel so much better after you do the thing that you need to do.  In this instance not only will you feel better physically but you will also reap the emotional benefits for doing what you needed to do even when you didn’t want to!

When you conquer consistency you are on the track for success!
Cheers to consistency,

I just got home from my annual Plexus (Gut health supplement company) Convention and I am FIRED UP to help people get healthy! We heard amazing speakers and stories of determination and grit and some major motivation! It was just what I needed! I too, just like most people can get off track or bit lazy. It’s easy to say, “Oh I’ll do it later”  or “I can skip my workout today”  or “I’ll message those clients later”

If you keep doing what you’ve always been doing you will get what you’ve  been getting!

So hear me when I say this real quick… I want to light a fire under your bum!
YOU HAVE TO MOVE!  Just do it now… you can use Mel Robbins: 5 second rule theory.  If you have have an instinct to act on a goal, you must physically move within 5 seconds. Count backwards, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and DO IT!  I actually just used this to get going on writing this (Late) Friday Fit Tip!

Get fired up! YOU can do anything you want!  YOU REALLY CAN! If you want to lose weight or get in shape YOU CAN DO! Or whatever it is you want, you absolutely can do it!

BELIEF WILL GET YOU THERE! Where’s your Mindset?

Whether you believe you can or you believe you can’t, YOU ARE RIGHT!  Positive self talk people! Tell yourself, “I am capable! and I can do this!”  And when negative creeps in your head… when you hear your inner thoughts saying, “I’ll never be able to lose the weight”  or “I can’t do that”  or “I don’t have enough time”  STOP RIGHT THERE…. acknowledge that you are about to let the negative direct your path and then TURN IT AROUND!   When this happens to me, I say something like, “Wait a minute.  Why can’t I reach this goal? Who’s stopping me?”   NO ONE IS STOPPING ME other than myself!  BOOM!!! Get positive and believe you can and go for your goals!

Get Fired UP!

Don’t Take Anything For Granted

Don’t Take Anything For Granted
14 Jun

If you were to only have one piece of sage advice to give someone what would you say? My advice would be: “Don’t take anything for granted.”

You have been given one life, one chance to influence the world and the people you meet. One life to spread the gospel, lead others to health, save another person’s life, raise a family, you name it there are many of the big reasons you were put on this earth, you may have one big mission to complete or many small ones.

What I have learned is that we should never take anything for granted.

This goes especially for how we take care of our bodies. In my youth I didn’t understand this. At times I practically used my body as a battering ram. To me my body was just a tool to use. I never thought of the long term effects some of my bad habits and activities would have.

Realize the Truth…

Whether it was poor posture, dangerous activities, or poor diet, I did more harm to myself than I knew by taking my body and my youth for granted. It was only as I got older and lost some of my youthfulness that I realized I needed to take better care of myself. By then I had a few nagging old injuries and pains that I used as excuses not to exercise. Only after training a variety of other people each from different backgrounds with different strengths and weaknesses did I realize that all of us are broken in some way or another. The lesson to be learned is that we should never take what we have for granted.

I believe one of my missions in life is to help people heal.

Maybe you have bad knees, but your arms are still good. Maybe you have a bad heart but your lungs are in top shape. Maybe its your back or shoulders that ache but your legs are as strong as ever. Whatever your physical condition, I’m betting you still have something that works! So take what you have and work with it, and never take it for granted or you might just loose that too!

Do You Need Help?

Sad Reality…

I hear so many people express their frustration with their health issues and their weight! But they don’t know what to do and honestly most people don’t really want to work for it.  IF you want to feel better and want to see your body transform you are going to have to work for it! Well, unless you are a male under 30, then you could probably give up soda and beer and lose 20+ pounds in a month! haha!   OK, so all jokes aside, no matter your age or your gender it can be done!

You are going to have to level with yourself!  But guess where change happens? Well, first I will tell you where change DOESN’T happen, in your comfort zone. If we want to move forward, we need to level up! We need to find people who challenge us to do more, to push us and step outside our comfort zone. You might even get frustrated, but that’s OK. That just means you are in the uncomfortable zone and that’s when results happen.

Here’s The Catch Though,

You actually have to want it more than I want it for you!
But if you do want to feel better well then, I’m here to help!

***That’s what I do!

I’m a personal trainer!  If you’re fed up with your health situation, please reach out to me! I will not charge you to just chat about your health and your options!
I truly want to help in anyway I can!

Baby Steps

Baby Steps

I didn’t even take the time to think of a New Years Resolution. If you made a resolution this year I hope a little advice will help you on your way. If you haven’t made one yet, it’s not too late! My wife and I have been on a big Dave Ramsey kick lately. If you don’t know who Dave is, he is a millionaire finance expert that gives seminars and even has his own radio show teaching people how to become debt free. Dave always talks about baby steps. He teaches there are multiple baby steps to take on your path to financial freedom. As a trainer, when I hear great advice like taking baby steps, it only comes natural for me to put the same logic towards a fitness goal.

In my opinion one of the biggest reasons people fail to keep their resolution is that they make too lofty of a goal and then they fail to make a plan to take steps towards that goal. For example, if your goal was to lose 40 pounds, how would you do it? Maybe read up on the latest fad diets and run to the nearest gym to start clocking miles and miles on a treadmill to burn it all off. Next thing you know you’re sore, tired, worn out, and you might even get injured.

Instead, I suggest the baby steps approach to any health or fitness goal. With a weight loss goal still in mind, instead of the fad diets , try abstaining from a few of those foods that you already know are bad for you. Maybe stop buying fast food at lunch and pack a healthy salad or trade the sodas & other sugary caffeine laden drinks for a cup of tea or black coffee for just one week. If you handle that fine keep it going then change a new thing that week.

How about instead of torturing yourself on that treadmill you hire a great personal trainer to help you make those smaller steps? Okay, shameless self promotions aside, if that treadmill really is your thing you can easily take smaller steps towards a long distance run. Try running for just thirty seconds at a time with rests in between, slowly building up your endurance each day until you can run the time or distance you desire.

Achieving your goals doesn’t have to be complicated or even all that difficult. All you need to do to achieve anything is to make a plan, take small steps towards it and never get discouraged if you have a bad day. We all have our slip ups, those who succeed are the ones who don’t give up; they just keep going the next day and take that next small step.

Good luck and God bless this year!

What’s Holding You Back?

What’s Holding You Back?
26 Oct

We are so close to the holidays again, it seems like this year flew by! When I get close to the end of a year I like to look back at my progress throughout the year. Of course this post is geared towards fitness progress, but you could apply this to any aspect of your life you wish to improve upon.

Let’s say for example your goal this year was weight loss or muscle gain. When you look in the mirror do you see the progress you have made this past year, or are you only looking at the progress you have yet to make?

I’m going to come clean here, the idea of this fit tip came mostly from my wife. She, like many women, struggle with her image of herself. Still trying to lose the last bit of baby weight from her last pregnancy, she gets frustrated when she looks at herself. She realized that she has been only looking at where she wants to be, instead of how far she has come. When the focus is on how far she still has to go, she begins to tear herself down and lose hope. Then eventually she stops making progress and begins the cycle again. The real epiphany she had was to change the way she looked at her progress. Now instead of looking at how far she has to go she looks at the progress she has made. Maybe there has only been a few pounds lost instead of the bigger goal she had. However, what she has seen is strength gains, smaller clothes size and muscle definition improvements. Looking at the improvements she made helps her to stay on track and keep motivated.

So the next time you look in the mirror,
don’t see where you need to go, see where you have been! Look at what you can do now that you couldn’t do before. Far too often when we reach for a goal we get in our own way and hold ourselves back! Looking too far ahead at a distant goal instead of the victories of today and yesterday can hold you back from reaching that goal. If you are what’s holding you back, it’s time to get out of your own way and step aside and let progress happen as it will. All you have to do is keep stepping forward!

Learn From a Wrestler: Cory’s Friday Fit Tip

19 Oct

HI Everyone! It’s me, Cory! My wife told me it was my turn to share my wisdom with you all, so here it goes!

As you may or may not know I have been into health and fitness for many years since I graduated from Black Hills State with my degree in Exercise Science. I’m also currently a Middle School Wrestling coach.  I tell you this because I tend to relate almost anything in life to wrestling, but lets talk about wellness. The majority of your success comes from your mental mindset and nutrition which is the same as being on the wrestling mat and as you prepare for every tournament and every match. It’s all about your mindset.

The 4 wrestling mindset principles that can directly relate to your fitness:

  1.  I am thankful for the opportunity to wrestle (or workout, exercise) SO NEVER take for granted your healthy mind and body. Go visit any hospital and you will instantly be thankful for your health!
  2. I am aggressive and relentless! This means pushing yourself outside your comfort zone, like overcoming the fear of box jumps. Also, being aggressive should translate to good self control with your food! Get zoned in on your goal and GO FOR IT with a relentless attitude.
  3. I have no fear of losing or making mistakes. Just like wrestling you might have good days (in the gym or at the kitchen table) and sometimes mediocre days and that’s okay. That’s life!  If you are afraid of making mistakes you will probably never pull the trigger. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, just make them and learn from them and you will be better for it!
  4. I never, ever give up!  The only time you will fail is if you stop trying. Just like wrestling we say, You will miss 100% of the shots that you never take!

There maybe someone out there more talented than you; but there should be no excuse for being out worked!

When it comes to your health and nutrition you need to be thankful, aggressive, have no fear and never give up!

Set a goal and GO FOR IT!

In Olympic Spirit,
Cory Neuharth

  1. Let’s talk about that New Year’s Resolution you set back in January.  How’s that going for you?  Hopefully good, but if not don’t be discouraged. Sadly, more people break their resolutions that those who actually meet their goals.  Let’s face it, January was cold and snowy and in the midst of Flu season and all the while being haunted by seasonal goodies all the way to Valentine’s Day.

BUT…SPRING is coming! Seriously, April is almost here! YEAHHH!!!   Longer days are here, warmer weather is near, soon there will be more fresh fruits and veggies to choose from and don’t forget the pool and lake are soon going to be calling. Read More
